Call for nominations: Forward 40 – the future of ESG & sustainability law

Forward Law Review is seeking outstanding nominations for the 2025 edition of Forward 40, our global spotlight on the next generation of ESG and sustainability lawyers.

We invite readers worldwide to nominate rising stars in ESG and sustainability law – exceptional individuals working in law firms, consultancies, in-house, government, NGOs or other relevant organisations. Forward 40 offers our audience a dynamic, informal introduction to the brightest young legal minds shaping the future of ESG and sustainability law.

Eligibility criteria
Nominees must be:

  • Aged 40 or under at any point before 31 May 2025;
  • A counsel or partner at a law firm, a barrister, or a professional of similar seniority in-house, in consultancy, in government, at an NGO, or equivalent institution.

Please note: only one individual will be selected per organisation, so we encourage nominators to prioritise quality over volume.

We’re looking for ESG and sustainability law experts from a wide range of backgrounds and jurisdictions.

How to nominate
Each nomination should include:

  • A brief summary (max. 200 words) explaining why the nominee stands out;
  • The nominee’s job title and date of birth;
  • One or more short (100-word) references from:
    • Another partner or senior colleague;
    • A client; or
    • A reputable professional familiar with the nominee’s work.

All submissions will be treated confidentially. However, references must be on the record, as they may be published.

Deadline for nominations: 31 July 2025

Selected individuals will be asked to respond in writing to a short Q&A, which will form the basis of their profile in Forward 40, to be published in September 2025.

Help us recognise the next generation of ESG/sustainability law experts – nominate someone exceptional today.
